Help reduce greenhouse emissions to zero. Let’s turn the tide on climate. Together.
A bigger-than-usual alliance of organisations and climate activist NGOs is aspiring to change human history, nothing less. And we are all invited to be part of it. Read on to find out how you can contribute to the global COUNTDOWN.
We’re mobilising. In Australia, there are council elections approaching. That (for us who live in Australia) is a window of opportunity to
1) change the story in our community, and
2) restore our broken democracy where Big Money so far has been making all the decisions for us, while we, the community, have been left in the dark.
Agenda? Here are some hashtags that express the essence of what we are on about:
#VoicesForGreta #AllForClimate #ClimateForAll #GreenRecovery #BuildBackBetter #climateemergency #tellthetruth #carbonclarity #zerocarbon #CitizensAssemblies
That should do for an agenda.
Do you want to join me on this journey? Let me know.
We are looking for candidates who will run in local council elections in Australia (and in my case, closer to home: in Geelong) – in particular people in their 20s and 30s, and women, and we are looking for supporters who will help with letterboxing and putting up posters, etc, as well as seniors and investors who feel like contributing to this financially – anonymously or shouted out from the rooftops, your choice.
‘Hell, everybody’s future is at stake here, and in particular our childrens’ future. Have a look:
We know now that the climate emergency will not be solved by our current leaders – we need to start changing the story from bottom up, and there’s never been a better time to do that than RIGHT NOW.
The truth is that our elected leaders have been betraying us for decades, blinded as they are by political donations, money under the table, and lobbying from vested interests in various industries that wouldn’t be viable if they had to pay for the pollution and destruction they are responsible for. All well documented by now.
If you are a parent in particular, I’d say this is a revolution worth getting involved in. And the good news is that you – we – are not alone. This uprise is happening right now all over the planet.
How you can get involved
TEDtalk, Youtube, C40, Global Covenant of Mayors, the Drawdown Project, Club of Rome, and many others, have come together to collaborate around COUNTDOWN. Here is their latest newsletter:
As we re-imagine the future, now is the time to create a wave of action around climate! Together, we want to build a zero-carbon economy that creates good jobs, ensures clean air and increases the resilience of communities all over the world. And to do that we need you.
Our updated website is now live – thank you for your patience as we’ve worked to adapt our plans following the pandemic. It describes our activities between now and the end of 2021 and includes multiple resources.
Here’s how you can get involved:
1. Spark conversations with your community
Start conversations on how we build back better post-COVID. Review the starter kit of resources to get informed about climate and learn from leading thinkers and doers, including:
How to rebuild the global economy
We need to green the economy while restarting it
The link between climate change, health and poverty
2. Host events on 10.10.2020 and the week following
These can be virtual or in-person, your choice, and can take any shape or size – sign up to host today. When you organize a local TEDx Countdown event, you will be able to:
– Feature talks from TED’s Countdown 2020 Global Launch.
– Curate new local talks, performances or interviews alongside the Countdown talks. Facilitate local discussions on how your community can act on climate.
– Organize volunteer activities around climate (depending on your local circumstances).
3. Take action in your company and in your community
Put solutions into practice and advocate for faster change.
4. Share Countdown with your friends + people in your network
Help spread the word and enlist others to join you and be a part of this global movement.
. . .
In this time of extraordinary disruption, we have the responsibility to not only re-imagine our future, but to work together to build it.
Thank you so much for being part of Countdown – we look forward to working alongside you.
