How do you get an entire school to talk about composting and waste with excitement and big smiles? How do you get kids started on the journey to become sustainability and energy literate – and towards an environmentally conscious behaviour?
Try The Costa Effect! Lots of action and new projects are taking off in the Geelong region after the ABC’s legendary Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis visited schools during three weeks of February 2016. He inspired more than 5,000 students in the region with his messages about sustainability, composting, gardening and protecting the environment combined with entertaining stories, jokes, acting and lots of laughter.
Costa truly is an environmental ‘info-tainment’ beacon and powerhouse. Not only is he able to catch kids’ attention, he’s got a solid message to the adults as well. Listen to this 9-minute interview where he talks about what drives him:

Youth sustainability activities in Geelong
Karina Donkers, City of Greater Geelong Council, is coordinator of the Environmental Youth Action Group, which meets fortnightly at 4pm at Waurn Ponds Library.
• On Tuesday 5 April 2016 – during school holiday – the group encourages you to participate in a day of fun activities in the gardens at Ceres.
• On World Environment Day on 5 June 2016 the group will take part in a planting day for young people in the Bellarine Peninsula

Act Up for Sustainability 2016
In the cross-curricular program ‘Act Up for Sustainability’, students from year 4 to year 8 explore a range of sustainability issues through workshops and research activities and present an outcome that reflects their learning in drama theatre, culminating with a performance at GPAC on 15 June 2016.
